Welcome, weebs, to Animated Observations

Sigh…

Ok, so maybe this isn’t the best place to keep talking about my rapidly developing Magic the Gathering addiction. However, it is the one I’m choosing so all of you are coming along for the ride.

A couple of months ago I posted an article talking about my journey into Magic the Gathering and the Commander format, a version of the game most often played with three or more people that generally centers around longer games and a degree of politics. Getting into the game has been a lot of fun, maybe even a little too much fun if we’re being honest.

In that post, I also briefly discussed my past history with competitive card games such as Yugioh, Hearthstone, Cardfight Vanguard, and a few others. It has been a long time since taking any of those games seriously, but getting back into a tabletop version of a card game has honestly left me with some conflicted feelings.

On the one hand, trying out competitive Magic might be fun. In-person gaming events are a big reason for having half my current friends, and I cherish them deeply. In fact, I only really know my best friend because of Yugioh tournaments at my local game store. On the other, time and money do factor in. Ok, well, maybe not so much money since most of my other hobbies are not resource-intensive at the moment.

The primary consideration is time. One of the things that has plagued my sense of productivity is wanting to do way too many things and not staying focused on any of them. I want to write, play video games, play Magic, and have a social life, all while keeping my job and trying to look for a better one so I will eventually have enough money to move out.

In truth, this was originally intended to be a jokier post about how much I have been spending on a silly little card game. Now it looks more like a self-reminder to get my shit together and actually work on improving at things I enjoy.

Well, anyway, there should be more stuff coming down the pipeline soon. until then!
